Sarasota County Real Estate Information

Sarasota County is a somewhat heavily populated and decidedly tourist oriented county found in the southwestern portion of the state of Florida. Sarasota County has a population of approximately three hundred seventy two thousand residents, and is considered a portion of the larger Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Area. The county seat of Sarasota County is, unsuprisingly, Sarasota, which is also the largest city in the county. Sarasota County covers a total area of approximately seven hundred and twenty five square miles, including about one hundred and fifty square miles of surface water. Sarasota County includes a significant amount of coastline along both the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay. Sarasota borders on three other counties of the Sunshine State – Manatee County, DeSoto County, and Charlotte County.

One of the most notable individuals involved with the founding of the communities around Sarasota County was Joseph Daniel Anderson, who is honored on a sign located on Manasota Key, one of the most notable islands in the region. Anderson settled in a part of what is now considered Sarasota County in the year eighteen eighty six, and lived there for most of his life. Sarasota County real estate and properties are relatively expensive in keeping with the high levels of personal and family income in the region. This is especially true in certain parts of the county such as Casey Key, where the home prices consistently trend into the millions of dollars, especially for ocean side properties. Sarasota County was officially incorporated in the year nineteen twenty one, having spent much of its previous history as a part of Manatee County.

Sarasota County is home to a number of beautiful beaches, many of which are just a short drive away from the real estate and properties of the region. In fact, one of the beaches, Siesta Key Beach, is ranked as the number two beach in the United States, a testament to its high quality and recreational value. The largest conglomerate of public schools in Sarasota County is the Sarasota County Public School District, while the county is also home to the New College of Florida, the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, and the Ringling College of Art and Design. Notable communities in and around the Sarasota County area include Longboat Key, Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, Anna Maria Island, and Holmes Beach.
