Holmes Beach Real Estate Information

Holmes Beach is a relatively small community found in the southwestern portion of the Sunshine State. Holmes Beach has a population of approximately five thousand one hundred residents, an increase of more than one hundred between census estimates in the year two thousand four and the census taken in the year two thousand. Holmes Beach is situated on Anna Maria Island, which in turn is considered a part of Manatee County. Holmes Beach is technically considered a part of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Area, increasing the convenience of this rather small city. Holmes Beach includes a total area of about one and two thirds square miles, including about one tenth of a square mile of standing surface water.

Some important residents of Holmes Beach throughout the years include entrepreneur Mondher Kobrosly, author Don Maloney, and baseball player Scott Rolen. Holmes Beach has a relatively high per capita income, which helps to explain the considerable racial and socioeconomic homogeneity of the city. Although the first explorers to discover the area which is now considered Holmes Beach were Spanish explorers, especially those that travelled along with conquistador Hernando De Soto, permanent settlement did not occur until more than three hundred and fifty years later. The first two settlers in Holmes Beach were Sam and Annie Cobb, although the community's name is taken from jack Holmes, who was responsible for planning the first large development in the area. Holmes Beach was officially incorporated in the year nineteen fifty, and has since developed into a popular tourist destination.

There are a number of educational institutions found in and around the city of Holmes Beach, including both public and private schools on all levels of achievement. The most notable institutions in the immediate area include the Ida M. Stewart Elementary School and the Anna Maria Elementary School, both of which are a part of the Manatee County Public Schools. There are also a number of colleges, universities, and private schools in the nearby city of Sarasota. Attractions found in and around Holmes Beach include the Coconuts Beach Resort, Queen's Gate Resort, and White Sands Beach Resort. Parks and recreational facilities near Holmes Beach include Palmetto Historical Park, Fort Desoto Park, and the GT Bray Gymnasium.
