Siesta Key Real Estate Information

Siesta Key is a relatively small tropical community found in the southwestern portion of the state of Florida. Siesta Key has a population of approximately seven thousand one hundred residents, although that figure may have changed substantially since the last comprehensive census was taken in the year two thousand. Siesta Key is situated next to both the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay, ensuring that there are plenty of beautiful beaches and recreational facilities located near Siesta Key properties and real estate. Siesta Key is located on a barrier island of the same name, and is technically considered a census designated place or CDP. Siesta Key takes its name from a Native American term for the region, Zarazote, although for a time it was known as Sarasota Key due to the influence of European explorers and mapmakers.

Siesta Key is situated in Sarasota County, and both the CDP and county are located within the much larger Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area. Siesta Key covers a total area of approximately three and a half square miles, including about two and a third square miles of land and one and a fifth square miles of water. This gives the community of Siesta Key a population density of roughly two thousand persons per square mile, with a relatively homogeneous demographic composition. Siesta Key is a remarkably wealthy community, most likely due to its stunning natural beauty and highly rated beaches. Siesta Key was originally explored by the Spanish, although permanent settlement was the work of Americans, towards the end of the nineteenth century.

There are a number of educational institutions in the general area, although there are relatively few on Siesta Key itself. These schools include Sarasota High School, Sarasota Waldorf School, and the Sarasota County Technical Institute. Recreational points of interest located near Siesta Key include the Palm Bay Club of Sarasota, the Sandpiper Beach Club, and Turtle Beach Resort. Parks in and around Siesta Key include the Phillippi Estate Park, Arlington Park, Oscar Scherer State Park, and Colonial Oaks Park. There is also Siesta Beach, which has been consistently ranked one of the top beaches in the entire nation.
